Feature Updates: March 2014

|   Mar 28, 2014

Happy Spring everyone! Socialcast believes that an enterprise social collaboration network should be simple, easy to use, and part of the every day flow of work, so employees can be more effective and efficient at their jobs. Our newest feature enhancements will make employees’ and community admins’ lives easier! Check out a few of the features available in March*:

1. Enhanced Search

Socialcast Search is intended to be intuitive and helpful to users. Our Search function and dropdown filtering has been improved so that as you type key words, your results will show any people, groups, or projects that has a matching substring in the name. You no longer need to know your coworkers exact name to find them!

2. Drag and Drop

We have extended the ease and functionality of dragging and dropping attachments throughout our application. Users can now drag and drop images and documents in messages, comments, and private messages. Visual cues will appear to indicate where you can add attachments.

3. Auto-Save Drafted Posts

Raise your hand if you have ever started drafting a post or comment, got distracted or accidently navigated away from your post, and lost everything you were working on! Well starting today, the text written in a share form or message comment will be saved even if you navigate to another part of the application and decide to come back.

4. Link Preview Options When Creating or Editing a Message

Did you know that there is a carousel link picker that gets automatically added when you include multiple URL’s in your message post? Use the left or right arrows of the carousel to select which link to show with your post. We have also improved the experience of editing existing messages to also show the same type of carousel link picker.

SOCIALCAST REACH UPDATES

1. Reach Extensions for End Users

Socialcast Reach allows companies to extend community features into the business systems that people use every day, providing a social, collaborative layer as part of every user’s workflow. This month, we’re opening up this powerful tool to end-users to deploy their own integrations. Community/Reach admins can now enable or disable the ability for community members to create Group, Company, Home, or Custom Stream Reach Extensions. This feature is enabled by default. To edit these settings, admins can go to Admin Settings > Integrations > Reach > Settings.

To easily deploy a Reach extension, members can go to the settings gear icon under the applicable Stream page and select “Embed [Home] Stream”. This will generate the Reach extension Embed Code, along with instructions for embedding the extension into an HTML page. This feature is currently available for the following streams:

  • Group Stream
  • Home Stream
  • Company Stream
  • Custom Stream

By default, all user-generated Reach extensions will be:

  • created without an assigned business system
  • take on the default company Look & Feel styling
  • will require community login by any viewers

Community/Reach admins can manage and edit user-generated Reach extensions in the Reach section of the Admin Panel. The user-generated Reach extensions will include the user’s name and extension type in the extension name, making it easier to be identified.

2. Additional Filters to Manage Reach Extensions

To help Community/Reach admins sort through existing Reach extensions, we have developed a more powerful set of filtering options. Now admins can filter based on extension type and/or ownership rights. Admins can also easily Deactivate and Reactivate extensions by clicking on the gear icon under the Actions column. If a Reach extension is deactivated, a notification email is sent to the extension owner.

3. Customize Reach Extension Headers

Reach extension headers can now be enabled, disabled, or customized exactly to your needs. When creating or editing an extension, on “Step 4: Look & Feel”, the custom header can be changed in the Container section.
