Differentiate Your Posts with Eye-Candy Characters

|   Dec 5, 2012

One thing I love about Socialcast is that it was designed for simplicity and efficiency.

We don’t have to worry about HTML coding. Or distracting animated GIFs or smileys. Or the complicated formatting styles of fonts, colors and text. Rather, we enjoy concise and easy-to-read communications.

With that being said, every once in a while, I like to spice things up and differentiate my posts with eye-candy characters.

In order to integrate attractive, cool icons, I leverage the awesomeness of CopyPasteCharacter.com.

Here are four simple steps to add CopyPasteCharacter’s icons to Socialcast messages:

⓵ Go to the web site. And if you love it as much as I do, bookmark it!
⓶ Select a graphic icon with your mouse that suits your message.
⓷ Copy it (“CTRL” + “C” for PC; “Command” + “C” for Mac)
⓸ Go back to Socialcast and paste the icon into your message.

The stylish numbers listed above are samples of the unique characters you can integrate into your messages. Oftentimes, I add this ☆ right before the title of my message to brand a series of posts or to spotlight internal campaigns.

Have fun with this. But not too much fun. Your co-workers, who may be easily distracted by excessive usage of icons, will thank you.

  • I really don’t see users applying this. Having to go to a separate website to copy and paste is just not efficient for fast-paced micro-blogging. Keyboard shortcuts or an in post option selection method would be the only effective means of really delivering value to the user-base in this regards. However for those times that users are putting a lot of care and time into one very important and longer post then I can see where using this means to format would be applied.

Thanks to the Socialcast team for all the work you guys do to bring such a great tool to all of us who use it. If you haven’t tried it, give it a shot.

    • Thanks for the comment, Bob.

You’re right that it does take a little more effort to apply these graphics and they are not for every post. But for a user that wants to spend a little extra time and highlight a particular post in a fun way, these icons can help. Hopefully a few people will enjoy using them.

I am glad that you and your team are enjoying Socialcast! Please let us know if you have any questions.

  • You do not have to go to the web page to add these characters. They are Unicode characters and most are available across many fonts. You can insert them in Most Microsoft packages like Word and Outlook with “Insert Symbol”. If you know the hex value, you can enter its 4 digits and type Alt-X to convert it to the Unicode character. I like the iOS apps “Unicode Map” and “Unicode Lab” to find Unicode characters quickly.
